Legacy in Lines: Prints and Drawings from the Martin W. Brown Collection

Founded in 1965, the University of Maryland Art Gallery traces its origins to a pivotal donation of over 100 exceptional prints and drawings by Martin W. Brown to the Department of Art in 1955. This collection, now the cornerstone of the Art Gallery’s holdings, has since expanded to include over 5,000 pieces. It features remarkable works by both American and European artists, including Peggy Bacon, George Bellows, Thomas Hart Benton, William Gropper, Rockwell Kent, Grant Wood, and Rembrandt van Rijn, among others.

This exhibition is organized by Director Taras W. Matla, with administrative support from Program Administrative Specialist Charisma Oparaugo, and design and installation led by Preparator Korey Richardson. Additional contributions by Curatorial Assistants Nan Zhong and Patricia Ortega-Miranda.

Major support is provided by the Mr. and Mrs. Martin W. and Sylvia M. Brown Operating Fund, and the Dorothy and Nicholas Orem Exhibition Fund. Generous support is provided by the Maryland State Arts Council. This exhibition is in association with University of Maryland's Arts for All initiative.

An in-person exhibition preview and reception will take place on Wednesday, Jan 29, 5-7pm. Free admission and open to the public.
