Highlights from the Collection
The University of Maryland Art Gallery is home to one of the Big Ten’s finest permanent collections of art and cultural heritage objects. Spanning from antiquity to the present day, our collection showcases the marvels of artistic and human inquiry.
Each year, Art Gallery staff carefully select standout works that reflect both the richness of global traditions and the evolution of creative expression. From paintings by Andy Warhol to African art to ancient Chinese and Korean vessels, Highlights from the Collection is an ongoing presentation of the most significant objects in our care—works that invite visitors to connect with the past and discover new perspectives.
This exhibition is organized by Director and Chief Curator Taras W. Matla, with design and installation led by Preparator Korey Richardson and operational support from Business Manager Andrea Huicy. Additional contributions were made by Curatorial Assistants Ashley Cope and Haojian Cheng.
Major support is provided by the Dorothy and Nicholas Orem Exhibition Fund. Generous support is also provided by the Maryland State Arts Council. This exhibition is presented in association with the College of Arts and Humanities and University of Maryland’s Arts for All initiative.
An in-person reception, coinciding with the exhibition preview of Yu Youren: Water on the Petal, will take place on Tuesday, September 16, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This event is presented in collaboration with The Clarice’s NextNOW Fest 2025.
