Mr. and Mrs. Martin W. and Sylvia M. Brown Operating Fund
The Mr. and Mrs. Martin W. and Sylvia M. Brown Operating Fund was established by Lawrence A. Brown and Deborah Brown Saxton (’72), together with their spouses, Alice Brown (’94) and Phil Saxton, in honor of their parents. In 1955—eleven years before the official founding of the Art Gallery—Martin and Sylvia Brown generously donated what became the museum’s founding collection. Comprising important American and European Old Master prints and drawings, the Brown Collection laid the groundwork for the museum’s enduring commitment to scholarship, connoisseurship, and excellence in the arts. Today, this operating fund ensures the continued vitality of that legacy by supporting exhibitions, education, and responsible stewardship.
Reiher Family Endowed Operating Fund
The Reiher Family Endowed Operating Fund strengthens the Art Gallery’s ability to support core operations, including the organization of exhibitions and educational outreach initiatives. Established with a special emphasis on works on paper—particularly photography—this fund ensures sustained support for one of the Art Gallery’s most dynamic collecting and programmatic areas. In addition to their generous support of The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, the Reiher family’s commitment to the arts at Maryland is further reflected through this enduring contribution to the Art Gallery. Your gift helps advance this vision and enrich the museum’s ongoing work.
The Yu Youren Operating Fund, established by Victor Yu (Ph.D. ’68) in honor of his grandfather, the renowned Chinese calligrapher and political figure Yu Youren (1879–1964), strengthens the Art Gallery’s capacity to support core operations, including the research, presentation, and long-term preservation of his works. With a broader focus on exhibitions that advance the understanding of Chinese painting and calligraphy, this fund ensures sustained support for one of the Art Gallery’s most culturally significant and intellectually rich programmatic areas. Your gift helps uphold this legacy and deepens the museum’s role as a site for cross-cultural learning and artistic appreciation.
