Wilhelmina Jashemski's Legacy: Gardens of the Roman Empire
Wilhelmina Jashemski’s Legacy: Gardens of the Roman Empire highlights the pioneering legacy of Emerita Professor Wilhelmina F. Jashemski and her enduring influence on the study of archaeological gardens. Featuring artifacts and archival materials from the Wilhelmina F. Jashemski Papers, housed in Special Collections at Hornbake Library, the exhibition is the result of a multi-unit collaboration at the University of Maryland. It is presented in partnership with the editorial leadership of Gardens of the Roman Empire (GRE), a collaborative digital publication conceptualized by Jashemski that documents more than 1,200 gardens across the ancient Mediterranean and beyond.
This exhibition is co-organized by UMD Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow Divya Dumar-Kumas and UMD Associate Professor of Architecture Joseph Williams, with design and installation led by Preparator Korey Richardson and operational support from Business Manager Andrea Huicy. Additional contributions were made by Curatorial Assistants Haojian Chen and Asley Cope, and Director and Chief Curator Taras W. Matla.
Major support is provided by the Dorothy and Nicholas Orem Exhibition Fund. Generous support is also provided by the Maryland State Arts Council. This exhibition is presented in association with the College of Arts and Humanities and University of Maryland’s Arts for All initiative.
