Up Close: Lee Krasner

February 1 to May 24, 2024

Up Close: Lee Krasner offers a glimpse into Krasner's dynamic use of color, a hallmark that evolved throughout her career and is evident in her bold compositions and expressive color choices. As a significant figure in the Abstract Expressionist movement, Krasner stood alongside artists such as Helen Frankenthaler, Grace Hartigan, and Joan Mitchell. Centered around her Primary Series lithographs, this exhibition delves directly into Krasner's interest in the potency of color as a dynamic tool for conveying emotion, exploring spatial relationships, and unveiling subtle nuances within the complexity of gestural mark-making and composition.

Up Close: Lee Krasner is organized by Director Taras W. Matla. Major support is provided by the Dorothy and Nicholas Orem Exhibition Fund. Generous support is provided by the Maryland State Arts Council. This exhibition is in association with University of Maryland's Arts for All initiative.

An in-person exhibition preview and reception in conjunction with the Lisa Marie Thalhammer: Chromatic Dialogue will take place on Wednesday, January 31, 5-7pm. Free admission and open to the public.
