Xochi Solis x Lost Sock

January 28 to April 22, 2021

What do coffee and art have in common? Conversation.

Since the University of Maryland Art Gallery remains temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we've decided to bring our world-class arts programming into the community. We've partnered with Lost Sock Roasters to present a socially distant, in-person micro exhibition of artwork by Austin-based artist Xochi Solis (b. 1981). The works on display vary in direction, approach, and meaning. Abstract and chaotic-looking at first glance, Solis’ hybrid collage-paintings are delicately arranged with utmost precision. Hints of color, texture, image, and text peek through the multi-layered compositions, allowing for the viewer to make connections that one otherwise might not even imagine—a true conversation starter.
