Class Visits to the Art Gallery

The Art Gallery at the University of Maryland is committed to educating students of all ages about the joys of creativity and contemporary art. The Art Gallery currently works with public, private, and home school teachers to complement various arts learning programs at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

About

The University of Maryland Art Gallery was established in 1966 and endowed with its first major collection of prints and drawings from Martin W. Brown. Initially housed in the Tawes Fine Arts Center, the Art Gallery moved into an expanded site located in the Art-Sociology Building (currenty Parren J. Mitchell Art-Sociology Building) in 1976.

Mission

The University of Maryland Art Gallery collects, displays, and interprets art from around the world. Our exceptional teaching collection spans from antiquity to the present, offering a unique opportunity for students, faculty, and the community to explore the richness and diversity of art within a single building.
